Your Library Card

The Fisher-Whiting Memorial Library is a participant in the State of Iowa's Open Access Program.

All area residents with proper identification are eligible to get a library card. Children under the age of 14 must be registered by a parent or guardian. Library cards are free so please ask for a registration card at the circulation desk.

Patrons who check out materials are expected to take care of the materials and return or renew them by the due date. The materials can be returned either at the desk during open hours or in the book return slot when the library is closed.

Patrons are responsible for all library items borrowed on their library card.

Patrons should notify the library staff of name, address or phone number changes.

Checkout times and procedures are as follows:

    • Books are checked out for a 3-week period. No limit on the number, but the library staff reserves the right to set a limit on the number of books if they feel it is necessary.
    • Audiobooks and Books on CD are checked out for a 3-week period. Limit of 3 Books on CD please.
    • VHS tapes and DVDs may be checked out for 2 days. Library staff reserves the right to limit the number if they feel it is necessary.
    • Magazines  are checked out for a 3-week period. The most current issues are not available for checkout.

Patrons may ask that an item be reserved. They will receive a call from the library when the item is available. Reserved items not picked up within a reasonable time will be reshelved.

Renewals may be done with a phone call and will be checked out for another 3 weeks if the item is not reserved by another patron.

Parents are responsible for books and materials checked out by their children under age 18 or still in high school.

Overdue, lost, or damaged materials must be paid for at current value. Library privileges, including internet privileges, may be denied to patrons who have not paid these fees.
